Play It Forward Reflection

Play it Forward is an amazing and uplifting adaptive sports program that encourages people with disabilities to look beyond their obstacles. The program gives people with spinal cord injuries, like myself, to share and be a part of amazing adaptive surfing. It refines what a person is capable of doing with a spinal cord injury.

My name is Joy Reyes. It was a pleasure to attend the Play It Forward adaptive surfing event through Mount Sinai Hospital. I love the idea of adaptive surfing; it serves as a form of empowerment and a reliever of stress. A great way to exercise your body while embracing less stress, knowing you have a great team of volunteers beside you. However, the ocean waves helped my muscles relax, and I felt light as a feather. I had an amazing time.

Three women in wheelchairs, all wearing pink tie-dye Women on Wheels t-shirts, raise their arms in celebration at an outdoor event. They are smiling and surrounded by a crowd of people. Buildings and trees can be seen in the background.
